Re: PS1 Free Time - Are Planetside Reserves Vets ? （PSU のフォーラムより。Higby のコメントです） Reserves accounts (I.e. free accounts) are not eligible. We did not want legions of hackers getting in to ruin the vets fun. It's also worth noting that if you do get banned for hacking its an account wide ban to all games, including ps2, so no beta access.
We absolutely do not consider every reserve account to be hackers. However, hacking was extremely common when the reserve accounts were activated because they had no "skin in the game", as they say. Accounts that are paid, i.e. bought a box, paid a sub, are way less likely to be hacking (although some do, don't get me wrong) than ones that never paid a cent and could create new accounts for free once banned. I'm sorry that you can't join in on the events, although if you really want to, you could always purchase PlanetSide (I believe it's 15 or 20 dollars) and you'll get 30 days free time with that to play again for the 7/1 event.
I hope to break the mold of imitating the watered down model of modern day FPS, but still having rolls/play styles for your average gamer... Hopefully bringing a unique experience in regards to game play.
The way to achieve this goal is to teach a player with on screen visuals such as 'analog feedback' demonstrated so well in Half-Life era games, when to let go of a trigger, when to spray and how to control their player/weapons properly.
I HATE being patted on the back for doing next to nothing in games.
If I choose to run around holding 'w' and 'mouse1' I am rewarded by mowing down an entire army and some ludicrous XP bonus in my face with crazy sounds and praises... Sure you can play that way if you want, and you should be able to kill a few people. HOWEVER, I believe playing a more intelligent way should be more beneficial as an individual player, this includes better bursting, recoil control and movement and rewards situational awareness.
I love the AK-47, it was the highest damage output auto in the game and took more time than any other to master... I became quite proficient with it in most circumstances, not many things match the satisfaction of 1 shotting a CT Awper all the way from T side long A on d2.

We will Rally in all three sanctuarys and then the Grid Locations/Continent Will be Called 8PM - ANT Demolition Derby - We will go From one warpgate to another and see who makes it there alive (AT Will Provide Air Cav Security) 9PM - Normal Operations
4PM - Empire War by PlanetsideTV - A 2 Hour Multi-Streamed Event Three Empires vying for control of multiple objectives. 7PM - Planetside Day Parade - THE MAIN EVENT - A 20 Minute In Warpgate Ceremony across multiple continentss (However many we can poplock) With a Parade around Auraxis until we are all killed (By Meteors or Each other) 8PM - Normal Operations
I understand and please remember feedback like this is crucial for us. I can remember a few years ago working on a strategy product and someone letting us know they weren't able to play well because they couldn't see the base of the game pieces on the map. It took a developer about a day to add an option in to change the tint and resolve the problem entirely.
Re: Higby in the Jungle （PSU のフォーラムより。この画像に関するレベルデザイナー Arclegger のコメントです） You have finally seen the inside of a part of the biolab. I've been working on this thing for a long, long time. It's still not done yet, needs more polish. A lot of work has been done by the artists on this thing, they've made it look and feel amazing.
今回は Higby も生出演してインタビューに答えるそうです。他には、新しいトレーラーに関する討論や、新しくスタッフになった Jimmy Whisenhunt に関する話がされるようです。
Re: Smed says announcements next week （PSU のフォーラムより。コミュニティ・マネージャー RadarX のコメント） I just wanted to come in officially and state it is in fact this week and we have not made an announcement yet. Thank you.
We absolutely want folks feedback on it and as Higby has stated, it's not completely out of the question in the future. At this point and time it's a safe bet you will not see it in at launch. We'll obviously let everyone know if that changes.
■ Higby Guys he's not here to change PlanetSide 2 into CS, or make an eSport, he's here to help us make our weapons FEEL awesome, balanced and competitive. Having a competitive FPS player on the team is going to help us out a lot.
■ Higby Good question Miir. We have pretty solid feeling base mechanics right now, and all the tools necessary to create great feeling gunplay. We also have several of types of weapons with dozens of variants each to differentiate, tune and balance, throw on top of that the customizations that affect weapon feeling and you're talking about a tremendous amount of work, so 1) we needed the additional manpower, and 2) we wanted to have someone with a lot of experience with gunplay in a variety of games to help us get them feeling better faster.
■ Higby It won't delay the start of beta. He's still got to move out here and get settled in, so he's not even full time on the team for a couple weeks at least. You'll see him (along with the rest of our weapons team) tuning and refining the gunplay throughout beta and beyond.
■ Whisenhunt People assume I've only played CS competitively and/or frequently
I've played just about every retail (and a ton of mods) FPS over the years pretty often during its time, my goal is not to change the game to something I see fit in relation to my CS expertise.
It's to take what I've learned from analyzing gun play, FPS meta-game and player needs in all of the games I've either casted, played for fun, competed in and help translate that in a way that is unique to the new experience.
I chose to do the CS:GO and CS 1.6 stuff because that community had no one left to speak out against the industry standard FPS model, if it was any other game I played and loved that had the issue, you would see videos related to that game
In regards to the players asking if I have played PS1: I dabbled in it with some friends years ago and was instantly in love with the experience, I'm excited to get back into it to make sure I still get it.
In regards to the players asking where my allegiance lies: Glory to the Republic!
Going through a few Beta launches myself, anything you've had read is already inaccurate. Development teams are always cognoscente of client size (some call it "footprint") and it will be kept as small as it can. It will not be small (under 10 GB) but in an age where that is like 3.5 hours of HD streaming? That's honestly not that much.
Re: Smed says announcements next week （PSU のフォーラムより。同じスレッドに置いて、RadarX のコメント） I'm not able to give specifics about the announcement. What I can say is not everyone may be happy with the level of detail, but should be with the topic.
Super vague? Yes otherwise it wouldn't be an announcement next week.
Re: Resource Denial: PS1 vs PS2 （PSU のフォーラムより。リソースに関する Higby のコメント） Good thoughts in this thread. A lot of valid concerns for sure, and a lot of stuff that we've sort of found solutions or possible solutions (we'll see when beta starts and people actually actively metagame) to some of these issues. I'm not going to go piece by piece through all the ideas and respond, but a couple things I wanted to clarify:
1 - it's not just kills that grant resources in moment-to-moment gameplay, any score generating event (healing, spotting, repairing, capturing, vehicle destruction, etc) will all generate resources. This moment-to-moment gain is also there for empires that are super pushed back, if you don't own any (or very little) territory that is generating resources for you, it's designed to give you enough to sustain fights while you recapture areas.
2 - re: Malorn's initial idea of removing resources when territory gets captured... I think this would be pretty difficult to pull off fairly. People would either log out when their territory was about to get capped so they didn't get the punishment, or we'd have to punish people who weren't even online which seems odd, especially if you log in in the middle of or right after a big territory losing streak.
3 - our influence system is going to have more effects than just territory capture bonus, things like longer respawn times, vehicle timers, resource costs, sphere of influence for deploying galaxies so you have to be further out from a base to set up a mobile spawn point, are all things we're planning on being associated with the influence system - which effects and their degree will be tuned a lot during beta
4 - the current maps are showing temporary resource values, we will have a more varied landscape at launch. The idea of making frontier territory more valuable is interesting Malorn, I'll have to chew on that a bit.
5 - we've talked quite a bit about having continental resource pools per empire vs per player, so if your empire owns 100 units of Alloys you can spawn a tank, but if they own 80 you cant. We've sort of gone away from this for a variety of reasons, most notably is it really discourages people to begin campaigns on continents where they don't already have strong resource yeilds, makes an empire that has dominance over a continent extremely hard to break, whereas if you can earn resource elsewhere and use them to go to war on other conts it fixes that.
6 - it's possible for us to do bonuses based on connectivity, i.e. if my empire owns two separate chunks of territory on a continent i may get a lessened yield until they're "connected" to my warpgate - again, that's something we've discussed and we're open to doing if it helps add strategic depth, but we sort of want to see how things work "as is" first.
Guys he's not here to change PlanetSide 2 into CS, or make an eSport, he's here to help us make our weapons FEEL awesome, balanced and competitive. Having a competitive FPS player on the team is going to help us out a lot. Higby のコメントによると、彼がプラネットサイド２をカウンターストライクにしようとしている訳では無く、素晴らしい武器の操作感とバランスの為であり、ゲームの競争性を高める為に働くそうです。
